Literaire maaltijden

In de boeken van Jane Austen komen regelmatig gerechten voor, zoals “white soup” (Pride and Predjudice) en “toasted cheese” (Mansfield Park). De zorg voor de ‘cream cheese’ is geweldig. : “Mrs Norris asked Fanny to carry her parcel: ‘take great care of it; do not let it fall; it is a cream cheese, just like the excellent one we had at dinner. Nothing would satisfy that good old Mrs Whitaker (the housekeeper), but my taking of one of the cheeses.’” (Mansfield Park, After the day at Sotherton).
